Over 50 years ago, during the Jesus Movement in 1975, Professor Lewis Montcrief from MSU gathered six young couples together to begin meeting as Spirit of Christ Church.  Worship gatherings moved from place to place over the years, until the church's current property in Haslett was purchased and developed in 1990.  Pastor Jessie Still has been serving as SOCC's Senior Leader since 2003. 

More recently, in 2026 SOCC merged with another local church named Capital City Vineyard, which also began on campus in 2001.  Like converging streams, these churches came together to join forces in unity for the sake of greater effectiveness and efficiency.  Pastor Kevin Shoemaker and Pastor Jessie now work together as co-Pastors, and the new congregation, Spirit of Christ Vineyard (SOCV), maintains CCV's prior affiliation with a national association known as Vineyard USA.
