OUR VALUES
Core values are the main distinctives that an organization holds most dear. These are the primary things we want to characterize our life & ministry together at SOCV.WE ARE...~ Dependent on Prayer~ Committed as Family~ United in Diversity~ Connected to Campus~ Led By The SpiritDEPENDENT ON PRAYER
We put PRAYER in the center of our community life as it expresses our dependence on God's goodness and grace. This isn't just in prayer meetings; we want small group meetings to focus on prayer, larger celebrations permeated with prayer, and a campus movement of prayer (the House of Prayer at MSU). All true life flows from our connection with God. As we consistently come before Him in prayer, He will have His way in us, and a great harvest of changed lives will be reaped. (Matthew 9:35-38)COMMITTED AS FAMILY.
If you’re looking for a spiritual FAMILY, we welcome you to join ours! We’re a church that feels like family, because we celebrate being adopted into the family of God as brothers and sisters, through our shared faith in Jesus. This means that a primary aspect of our life together is how we love and encourage one another in Christ. Yet, this family is not closed to newcomers... we recognize God is continually drawing new people into His family. So we welcome you to pay us a visit. Come as you are; you'll be warmly welcomed and loved! (Romans 12:9-10)CONNECTED TO CAMPUS.
Spirit of Christ Church began as God moved among students on the CAMPUS of Michigan State University over fifty years ago. To this day, our connection to the campus remains an important part of our DNA. That connection is fostered by welcoming students into our family, and by our engagement in Campus Ministry through the House of Prayer East Lansing. Students are also involved in many other aspects of our church life. Our joy and privilege is to be part of reaching and equipping the next generation of young leaders in the kingdom of God. If you’re a student at any of the nearby campuses — MSU, LCC, GLCC, Davenport, etc. — we welcome you! (Psalm 71:17-18)UNITED IN DIVERSITY.
We realize that Jesus is the Lord and leader of a Global Church, and we're only one small part of His great big family. This inspires us to value and practice UNITY, both within our local congregation and with other churches. We seek to love, honor and serve the larger Body of Christ in our city and champion the cause of Christ wherever it is alive and active! As a result, you'll see us partnering with other churches and ministries, in gatherings that bring diverse congregations together. Instead of the judgement and division that are all too common, we want our combined witness to show the world that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 17:21-23)LED BY THE SPIRIT.
Finally, in all that we do want to be filled and led by the Holy SPIRIT, who is our counselor and guides us into all truth. The Spirit of Christ Jesus inspired the writing of Scripture, and helps followers of Jesus understand and apply them. The Spirit indwells us and then actively forms us in the likeness of Jesus, and empowers us to participate in the ministry of Jesus. In short, we can't be part of the body of Christ without the work of the Spirit of Christ in us, both individually and corporately. With this in mind, at SOCV we embrace the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and all the Biblical gifts of the Spirit. ()
